FROM ONE IMAGE TO MANY

How to split a sprite sheet into frames

A few simple steps. A perfectly planned split.

01

Open a sprite sheet or icon atlas

Choose the source image. PNG is a useful choice when your sprites have a transparent background.

02

Match the sprite grid and spacing

Set the number of rows and columns, then adjust the outer margin and the gap between neighboring frames.

03

Export your individual sprite frames

Inspect the preview boundaries and generate the frame files. Download single sprites or keep the whole sequence together in a ZIP.

A LITTLE INSPIRATION

Extract individual frames from a regular sprite sheet

This sprite sheet splitter is designed for evenly arranged frames. Enter the grid used by the source atlas to cut each cell into a separate image. Row-and-column filenames make animation frames and icon collections easier to identify.

YOUR IMAGE, YOUR WAY

Remove sprite sheet padding with margin and spacing controls

An outer margin is the padding between the sheet edge and the first frame. Spacing is the gap between neighboring frames. Set both values in source pixels so exported sprites omit those gutters. Check the preview whenever the source sheet uses padding.

MADE TO BE PRACTICAL

Save transparent sprite frames as PNG images

PNG preserves alpha transparency and sharp pixel-art edges. Choose it for icons, character animation frames, interface assets, or game textures. The splitter re-encodes images with Canvas, so preserve the source file if its original metadata or color profile matters.

BUILT AROUND YOUR PRIVACY

Prepare a sprite atlas for game and animation workflows

Frames are exported in row-major order, moving left to right before continuing on the next row. Irregular or tightly packed atlases need a dedicated atlas editor; this tool does not infer arbitrary sprite boundaries from transparent pixels.

A FEW THINGS WORTH KNOWING

Sprite Sheet Splitter FAQ

Small questions. Straightforward answers.

More help & answers

Can this tool split a transparent sprite sheet?

+

Yes. Open the PNG sheet and choose PNG output to keep the transparent areas in each extracted frame.

How do I remove the gaps between sprite frames?

+

Set the spacing control to the gap size in source pixels. Use the margin control for equal padding around the outside of the sheet. Preview the lines before generating.

Does the tool detect irregular packed sprites automatically?

+

No. This workflow cuts a regular row-and-column grid. A sheet with differently sized packed rectangles needs its original atlas metadata or a dedicated atlas editor.

Are my images uploaded to a server?

+

No. The image tools read and process your selected file inside your browser. Your image is not sent to an image-processing server. Closing the page clears the working image from memory.

Which image formats can I split?

+

Open JPG, PNG, WebP, AVIF, GIF, and other image formats your browser can decode. Download PNG for lossless graphics and transparency, or JPG and WebP for compressed photos. Animated inputs export as a still frame.

One image. So many possibilities.
